Desert set for Jubilee bow (britishhorseracing)
Brian Meehan has confirmed Lady Of The Desert is on course to make her
seasonal reappearance in the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot next month.
The one-time Classic hope developed into a sprinter of the highest calibre
last season, finishing second in the Sprint Cup at Haydock, winning the Diadem
Stakes at Ascot and going down by just a length in the Prix de l’Abbaye at
Longchamp.
“She’s been great and we opted for a late start because the autumn is going to
be so much busier for her,” Meehan told At The Races.
“She’s probably more likely to go for the Golden Jubilee – we’ve just kept her
in the King’s Stand as an option.
“We had to have a crack at the possibility of giving her a Guineas preparation
last year, it was only right. But she’s a sprinter and that is where she’ll
stay.”
Another fascinating participant for Meehan at Ascot will be the Coronation
Stakes-bound Theyskens’ Theory.
The daughter of Bernardini was placed in Group One company last season and
looked better than ever when routing a decent field at York on her seasonal
reappearance.

Turner’s got the Blues (britishhorseracing)
Hayley Turner has been pencilled in for the mount on promising sprinter Deacon
Blues in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Turner was on board James Fanshawe’s four-year-old on his only start this
season, when he finished a close second to Imperial Guest in a handicap over
the same course and distance.
Although only successful once in eight starts last term, Deacon Blues enjoyed
the cut and thrust of the big handicaps as he managed to finish third in the
Portland at Doncaster.
Writing in her blog for Racing UK, Turner said: “I rode Deacon Blues in work
at James’s, and look like taking the ride on him in the Wokingham at Royal
Ascot.
“I rode him last time at the course, when he was a little unlucky, and I think
the big field and strong pace will really suit him.”

Channon backing Hitch to do job (britishhorseracing)
Mick Channon believes Sam Hitchcott is the right man for the job ahead of Zain
Al Boldan’s run in the Investec Oaks at Epsom on Friday.
The unbeaten filly only just managed to make a winning return in a minor
Folkestone handicap, but looked vastly improved when bolting up in the
Lingfield Oaks Trial with Hitchcott in the plate.
“Sam suits the filly. She is not the easiest to ride but from day one he has
got on with her and he rides her a lot at home. He’s settled her down and got
her moving well and he’s good enough if she’s good enough,” the trainer told
At The Races.
“It’s an exciting opportunity for everyone and the horse seems to be in good
form. She’s going there with what we believe to be a live chance and it’s
exciting to be running in a Classic.
Hitchcott can hardly wait for Epsom to come around and he feels his mount
ticks plenty of boxes.
He said: “We’ll definitely stay and for me we’ll definitely handle the track.
The likes of Blue Bunting and Wonder Of Wonders have all got to go there and
show they …
